Departure Time: Hotel in Kuching- 09:00 am Description: Day 1 (L/D): Kuching / Lemanak River / Ngemah Ili In the morning depart from your hotel in the city and proceed for 3D/2N Lemanak River Safari, situated about 220 Km from Kuching City Town, with a few stops along the way: the first one at Serian Town where we will stop for stretching of your legs, shopping for gifts for the Ibans. You can also visit a fascinating native fruits and vegetable market. The other stops include a visit to the pepper farm and a stop at the roadside where you can observe plenty of wild orchids and also pitcher plants (insect eating plants).The last stop will be at “Lachau”, a small upcountry Chinese Village where you stop for lunch. (Here barter trades are still being held between the natives of Kalimantan, the Chinese shop owners and the natives of Sarawak.) After lunch, continue your program with an approximately 1 and a half hours drive to Lemanak River to reach the “Lubok Subong” Jetty where you will board a longboat and proceed upriver to the ‘Ngemah Ili” Longhouse. On arrival at the longhouse, leave your belongings in the family room. You will be served with coffee and tea and mingle with the families. Dinner will be served at one of the family rooms. After dinner, the Ibans will sound their gongs and perform their traditional warrior and maiden dance in full ceremonial regalia with the longhouse chief and folk. Rice wine “Tuak” will be served. Overnight spent in the longhouse with mattress/ mosquito nets, pillow (very basic accommodation). Day 2 (B/L/D): Lemanak River / Ngemah Ili Breakfast in the guesthouse, The Iban people will give you a presentation with their traditional weapon, the blowpipe. After the blowpipe presentation, you will have the option (1) to explore the surrounding forest trekking with your guide during a 2 hours trekking (moderate) passing through pepper and rubber plantations, your guide will show you the jungle plants and trees that are being used by the natives as medicine. After reaching a two story high waterfall witness the native bamboo or just refresh yourself after the trek in the stream. After lunch, trek back to the Longhouse for another approximately 2 hours. Longboat Jetty, Ngemah Ili, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, Borneo Or option (2) to proceed for another longboat ride upriver, passing by an Iban cemetery until a beautiful spot at the riverbank where your lunch will be prepared in the traditional Iban way, using bamboo. Dinner will be served in one of the Family rooms (Bilik). Overnight in the “Ruai” on mattresses with mosquito nets. Please take note that the Facilities of the longhouse are very basic. Day 3 (B/L): Lemanak River – Kuching Breakfast with the Iban families. Now it is time to say goodbye to the Ibans. After proceeding downriver by longboat, your guide will bring you back to Kuching by van along the Pan Borneo Highway (approximate 4-5 hours) with a stop at Ranchang Pool for lunch and transfer to your hotel in the city. Includes: Ground Arrangement with Transportation and English Speaking Guide, meals as stated in the program, 2 nights accommodation at the Longhouse Ngemah Ili (mattress with mosquito net) Excludes: Items Not Stated Above, Tips, Personal Items & Camera/Video Fees, Domestic/International Airfare, Insurance, peak season surcharge, presents for the visit to the Iban families (approximately RM15 per customer) “Rual”, Ngemah Ili, Important Information: The toilet and shower facilities at the Longhouse “Ngemah Ili” are very basic. The above program is ideal for adventurous clients that wants to get a deep experience of the Iban Culture but accepts basic facilities. |
